The doctor of chiropractic works with the nervous system via the spinal column. Every nerve and function of the body is under the control of the nervous system, including all organs, tissues, cells, sensory reception, physical movement, and so on. These nerve transmissions pass from the brain to the various parts of the body through the spinal column. The spinal cord is the “switch board” of the nervous system. The nerves branch off of the spinal cord through openings between the moveable spinal bones or vertebrae. When the vertebrae are out of alignment, there can be interference with the normal activity of the nerves. This interference can disturb the normal function throughout any part of the body and result in a state of pain or dysfunction.
